The Arab Health Exhibition & Congress 2023, held on Jan 30. at the Dubai World Trade Center, discussed the advancements in digital healthcare that are enabling the treatment of patients more quickly and efficiently. They are significantly improving health outcomes for patients around the world.

Having Health Insurance in the UAE is very important for you and your family. Insurance companies in UAE provide many plans that are suitable for you. Average medical Insurance coverage for an individual can cost around AED 10,000 per year. For basic medical coverage, family medical insurance in Dubai costs between AED 17000 and AED 18000.

On the occasion of the Arab Health 2023 opening, Dr. Rasha Buhumaid, the assistant professor of emergency medicine at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, shared insights into the latest innovations and technologies that bring the hospital to the patient.

Data collection from patients becomes more efficient with the help of advanced technologies. Experts at the event at the Dubai World Trade Center said that medics should be freed up to spend more time delivering the human touch to those in need of care.

Hospital to Home

Dr. Alan Kenned, who's the founder of PulseAI, which is a digital healthcare company using machine learning to improve diagnostics, said with the help of technology we could free up hospital waiting rooms.

Alan Kenned said, “The dream is that in the near future, people won’t have to go to the hospital or GP clinic as they can be remotely monitored in their own homes."

The tools for this transformation are already there, like wearable biometric devices like watches and rings that collect data, but the challenge is getting accurate data from artificial intelligence software.

Nowadays, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer are the most common causes of death, with advanced AI algorithms that are capable of providing a more accurate reading of a patient’s risk.

More health data has been generated as advanced screening and diagnostic technology become more widespread.

Definitive Results

Alan Kenned's PulseAI has been licensed by smart device manufacturers to be integrated into everyday wearable devices like smartwatches and rings to help individuals understand their hearts.

During their research, the company evaluated more than a million electrocardiograms from seven different countries, each of which was annotated by a cardiologist or emergency physician, to compare the results with those analyzed by its AI algorithm.

When evaluating the results, if a doctor is not sure whether the results indicate an abnormality, the test will be considered inclusive and the patient will be asked to return for another test. With the help of technology and software, the number of inconclusive reports decreased from around 20 percent to 1 percent.

Dr. Kennedy also added that “studies are showing that continuous monitoring is the most effective form of diagnosis."

The importance of these technologies is that patients get a better quality of surveillance of their condition, so treatment can start earlier with better outcomes.

Catching Abnormalities as Early as Possible

Wearable technologies not only help users if they face a medical emergency but also identify a condition before it becomes serious.

Artificial intelligence proved its worth in health care, especially during the time of the pandemic. It learned how to disinfect public areas, deliver packages, and also predict based on data how fast the virus was spreading.

Nowadays, advanced algorithms can track breathing rates and the severity of a patient’s cough to diagnose disease. It can be used to monitor lifestyle diseases like stress and depression, too.

The coming years will witness the advancement of technology in the form of wearable devices, smartphone apps, and digital healthcare data continuing to penetrate our lives. Artificial intelligence will continue to change healthcare in the future.

Better Use of Time

Healthcare organizations across Europe and the US are already using AI to automate work. According to Kevin Lev, from the healthcare informatics division of Philips, the importance of human-machine collaboration has never been more apparent.

He also said that “doctors who embrace artificial intelligence in radiology and elsewhere will ultimately perform better than those who don’t.”

Advanced AI technologies can rule out potential diseases and provide better insight for more complicated cases that require detailed investigation.

Three years ago, physicians would have been concerned that artificial intelligence could replace them, but now they are seeing the opportunities that are created by AI to make their work more efficient.

The Role of Technology in Emergency Care

Ross Williams, Exhibition Director for Informa Markets, commented on the role of technology in emergency care, saying that Innovation is under the spotlight at Arab Health 2023 and new technologies are game changers in delivering vital treatment to those patients in emergency situations. The event is bringing together visionaries around the world that are at the forefront of these life-saving technologies.
