UAE is the ideal tourist destination for many tourists all over the world. By the year 2028, the travel and tourism industry will be responsible for nearly 400 thousand jobs. Travel agencies and car rentals are among the most popular travel and tourism businesses.

Tourists from some countries are allowed to use their issued driving licenses in the UAE. This means that you can rent a car after completing some paperwork. When you rent a car, ensure it's insured under car insurance in Dubai. To know more about insurance and details, you can check car insurance online. Visitors from the GCC and certain countries do not need an internal driving license to drive in the UAE.

From Where Can You Rent a Car?

There are plenty of options available for you. You can find international car rental companies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. You can rent a car on a daily, weekly, or month-to-month basis. The price will vary with respect to the car you rent.

Extra Costs

To rent a car in the UAE, customers will have to pay 5 percent VAT on the final bill. There will be toll charges depending on the company you hire with. The company Avis charges Dh6 every time you cross a Salik gate in Dubai, Hertz's tariff is Dh5.25, and some companies ask for Dh5 also.

Dubai Salik gates are an electronic toll road system, that is based on RFID technology and automatically deducts a fee when a toll gate is passed through. There are currently eight Salik gates in Dubai. You will have to pay toll costs if you expect to cross the main highways often during your stay. There will also be a vehicle registration fee of Dh5 per day, up to a maximum of Dh75 a month.

What is The Paperwork You Need to Complete?

Tourists need to provide a copy of their passports and driving licenses. Car rentals in the UAE usually take full payment for renting out a car from tourists and also block an amount between Dh1,000 and Dh4,000 on their credit card as a guaranteed amount in the event they commit any traffic violations. The deposit may vary for cars.

The amount will be released a few days after they return the car, to make sure they didn't get a fine that did not show in the system at the time of returning the car.

What if You Came Up With an Accident?

The rented cars are insured through car insurance in Dubai, so any accident will be dealt with in the same way as other accidents. If a tourist has an accident, he or she has to face the same rules as other native drivers. In a serious case, they do have to go to the police station or the court.

There are also some exceptions in insurance, like in the case of drink-driving, where the insurance will not cover any damages. In this case, the rental company has all the rights to recover the money from the customer.

Drunk and driving breaks the contractual agreement with the insurance company and also breaks the law. Insurance companies will not cover damages that are the result of drunk driving.

Can I Use a City Car For Off-Road Purposes?

No. There are other vehicles that are suitable for off-roading. City cars are not meant for off-roading. You have to pay for any damages caused by such an action.

Can I Drive The Rented Car to Oman?

Not all rental companies allow this. Those companies that allow this will charge a one-way car rental fee and some other extra charges. The company has to provide you with comprehensive insurance and a NOC from the car company.
