Suppose you're going on an extended holiday back home soon. In that case, you may want to update your vehicle registration and insurance in advance so that everything is in order before you return to the UAE. It's beautiful to be well-organized! You're not sure if it will work or even whether it's even feasible. Allow us to assist you in addressing some of your questions!

Is it a possibility or a myth?

Yeah, you can upgrade your car insurance policy in UAE before the expiration date, but it does not work the way you intend. In the United Arab Emirates, for example, it is not possible to have two insurance plans operating simultaneously.

Cancelling and rewriting, or, to put it another way, paying "new" car insurance before the expiration deadline will terminate or invalid the existing policy and the remaining months, as well as lose any of the hard-earned dirhams you have invested. Of course, we're saying you're not worried for a month or a few weeks, which is a whole different case. Instead of cancelling and rewriting your policy, you will be able to renew in advance if you are just a few weeks or up to one month away from your regular renewal deadline, so there may be a fair option for you.

What are some of the things that you should consider?

- Suppose your extension is more than a month out. In that case, it's a smart idea to measure the expense of cancelling and rewriting the existing insurance to update your vehicle registration ahead of time to see if it's possible and feasible.

- If you're satisfied with your present car insurance provider and plan to renew, you can email them ahead of time and see if they're cool with it.

- You should bear in mind that premiums fluctuate regularly, and certain insurers will not be able to give you the same premium if you renew ahead of time. This is fair because you may have an accident or injury between now and expiration, stopping you from adding another year to your no-claims streak!

- Often consult with your insurer to see what kind of incentives they can give you for renewing your policy ahead of time.

- If it's less than a month out, you shouldn't have that many problems because most insurers will want to "invite" you to renew within 30 days of your renewal deadline.

Of course, you should request the guidance of certain trustworthy persons for their thoughts and feedback on the right course of action in any insurance case. Fortunately, we already know who to call!
