Dubai: The 'We Are All Police' initiative, which allows members of the public in Dubai to report traffic offenses, recorded 29,539 traffic penalties last year, according to the Dubai Police Department.

The program also processed 21,283 penalties filed by Dubai Police personnel, and 8,256 fines were captured by CCTV surveillance cameras, according to Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. It also handled 28,662 traffic reports from concerned members of the public.

Brig Al Mazrouei went on to say that the initiative allows citizens to help ensure the safety and security of Dubai's roads by reporting reckless drivers and traffic infractions using the Dubai Police smart app or by phoning the call center (901). All reports are processed "thoroughly and discreetly" by police traffic specialists, he added.

Checking reports

"We don't impose penalties against persons immediately after getting a report; instead, we verify the report, examine cameras, and call violators to warm them up before issuing any tickets," Brig Al Mazrouei stated.

Brig Al Mazrouei advised against abusing the service, stating that individuals who wrongly accuse other motorists will face legal prosecution. He urged the people to take use of this service and help Dubai Police in maintaining road safety and protecting road users' lives.
