UAE officials have started a new campaign encouraging safe driving and urging motorists to prioritize pedestrians when crossing streets to avoid run-over accidents. The Ministry of Interior along with the cooperation of the Federal Traffic Council launched the first traffic awareness campaign in 2022.

The tagline goes like this: "Protecting pedestrians and drivers from run-over accidents" that creates traffic awareness among road users.

In order to protect everyone's safety, the three-month campaign, which began on February 1 also attempts to educate motorists about the need of following traffic regulations and giving priority to pedestrians using crosswalks. Also, the residents are advised to use the allocated road crossing area.

Major General Counsellor Engineer Muhammad Saif Al Zaffin, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs and Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council remarked that this campaign is part of a series of big efforts by the Ministry of Interior this year at the state level.

"These initiatives aim to promote and spread a culture of traffic awareness in the commitment and adherence to traffic norms, which ensure pedestrian safety on the roads and decrease run-over accidents, injuries, and deaths," he added. So opt for life insurance to protect oneself and families, in case of any unfortunate happening in the life.

Al Zaffin said that pedestrian protection on the roadways is a shared obligation between road users and pedestrians, and that road users have a significant part in attaining safety by exercising caution and attention, as well as providing pedestrians precedence in crossing safely.

During uncontrolled crossings and near schools and educational institutions, cars must be patient and give way to pedestrians when it is safe to do so, according to traffic officials.
