The UAE witnessed the heaviest rainfall in the last 27 years in the last few weeks, and it resulted in severe floods in various parts of the country like Fujirah, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.

A total of seven people died, and businesses and civilians faced a massive damage and financial loss due to this unprecedented event. Thousands of vehicles were damaged and swept away. The residents and businesses have already started submitting their insurance claims, and the industry experts states that the claims are "serious".

The majority of the claims notifications are coming from the Northern Emirates, where the rains were extremely heavy, stated Anas Mistareehi, chief operating officer of Al Wathba National Insurance Co. (AWNIC).

The insurance experts states that comprehensive motor insurance policies are necessary to cover the damages caused by rain.

After the heavy floods in the the northern and eastern emirates of the country last week, the UAE established a committee to assess the damage. The committee has been urged to provide a thorough report on the damage and to start taking action to safeguard the inhabitants' assets and property.

In order to assess damages and direct relief operations, senior officials from Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah also examined the regions affected by the rain.

According to Anas Mistareehi, based on the claims that have been notified thus far, it appears that the overall claims are substantial and range across all company kinds and insurance covers. Given the recent environment changes, he encouraged both businesses and people in the UAE to seek adequate insurance coverage.
