With the expansion of the Traffic Incidents Management Initiative, Dubai's rapid intervention cars will be stationed on more roadways.

Authorities have declared that the program would comprise 15 motorways and significant streets in Dubai that will span 425 kilometers over the next three years.

This comes after the initiative's "great success" in its pilot phase, which helped to reduce "secondary injury-related incidents, improve traffic flow, and significantly speed up the clearing of cars involved in accidents."

Mattar Al Tayer, the director-general and chairman of the RTA's Board of Executive Directors reported that the Traffic Incidents Management scheme mainly aims to assure speedy intervention in order to clear the vehicles met with minor accidents, breakdowns, and more.

It also helps the Dubai Police manage traffic and provide other routes during serious accidents, avoiding the occurrence of additional accidents as a consequence of abrupt congestion."

Phases

The first phase of the project will start in the second half of 2022. Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Ittihad Road, Al Khail Road (first phase), Dubai-Al Ain Road, Al Yalayes Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Rabat Street, and the Airport Road are among the seven streets covered.

Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street are the four highways covered in Phase 2, which will begin in 2023.

Dubai-Hatta Road, Umm Suqeim Street, Expo Road, and Hessa Street are all part of the third phase, which will begin in 2024.

Al Tayer also mentioned that the highways were chosen based on different parameters that include the intensity of traffic during peak hours. It also includes the number of accidents and broken cars on the streets.

Rapid Intervention

Authorities have designated "important spots" for fast intervention vehicles to be stationed on highways and major thoroughfares. This will ensure that the cars arrive at the accident scene within 10 minutes.

Al Tayer explained that the Traffic Incidents Administration Unit will be handling the cases of broken-down cars and rapid management of the locations in which the incident happened. The team will deal with minor situations that do not require the presence of police personnel and restore traffic.

Role of Dubai Police

The commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, stated that the police will examine major accidents, injury-related incidents, and traffic offenses.

The RTA will offer technical and financial assistance for the project, which will include traffic diversion, traffic signal timing, electronic message signs, tactical traffic diversion, traffic monitoring, and reaction plans, on-site camera monitoring, and infrastructure preparation for test sites.

Even though the UAE government is frequently taking adequate measures to ensure the maximum safety of the public, a car insurance in Dubai is inevitable to protect your car from unexpected accidents and expensive costs associated with it.
