Starting from  Jan 1st, 2021, the Government of Abu Dhabi has decided to implement a new strategy. This strategy revolves around deploying a newly made automated system that will detect those who violate the traffic rules, specifically not putting on seat belts and mobile phone violators while driving. This new decision was made by the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi, which was represented by the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA). This new model is being developed with cooperation from the Abu Dhabi Police. Along with having car insurance in Abu Dhabi, people will have to keep an eye on this automated system.

This automated system is being called VAST (Vehicular Attention And Safety Tracker), and will focus on reducing the probability of road accidents and enhancing road safety in the Capital. The system comprises a radar monitoring system that will enable the police to capture high-resolution images with an intelligence-powered camera. These images will be analyzed with an automated process to detect seat belt and mobile phone violations. In breaking the rule, the drivers will receive SMS notification regarding the violation, which will help them rectify their mistake.

The Director-General of ADDA, Mohamed Abdel Hameed Al Askar, has addressed this as a cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Police and ADDA to use accurate data analysis and benefit from this latest technology a digital government in a proactive, personalized, collaborative, and secured manner.

Major-General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, The Director-General of Abu Dhabi Police, has informed that they are putting in maximum efforts to promote safe driving measures and practices to guarantee a safe and secured driving environment to the public. The implementation of this new system marks a joint effort between the police and the ADDA to provide a safe and secure society to Abu Dhabi. The VAST system's implementation will be done in five phases: camera and edge devices, image renew module, SMS notification, performance dashboard, and model retraining. Al Sharifi has noted that the 'Data a

nd Modern Technology' of ADDA has worked closely with respective police teams to develop this advanced system. The analytical model was developed by collecting, tracking, analyzing, and processing data with intelligent techniques.
