Salik, a system of automated toll collection in Dubai, automatically deducts Dhs 4 from prepaid accounts each time a vehicle passes through a toll point. Currently, Dubai has eight Salik Gates. These consist of Al Barsha, Al Garhoud, Al Maktoum, Al Mamzar South, Al Mamzar North, Al Safa, the Airport Tunnel, and Jebel Ali. Let’s find out how to pass some Salik toll gates without paying.

When is it Free?

At some times of the day, Salik is absolutely free. Cars traveling through the Umm Hurair Road toll gate at Al Maktoum Bridge will not be charged a Salik toll on weekday evenings or the entire day on Sundays. The exemption is valid from Saturday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m. and from Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. while the floating bridge is shut down. For vehicles crossing the bridge on Fridays, tolls will still be required.

Drive Under One To Get The Other For Free

You need to pay Dhs4 to pass through Al Mamzar South on your trip to Sharjah. However, if you pass through Al Mamzar North again within an hour, you can drive past that toll gate without paying, and vice versa. You will only be charged once if you pass through Al Mamzar North on your route to the Al Mamzar South gate in the same direction within an hour. Technically, that is a discount.

Set Up Your Salik

Visit a gas station in Dubai or purchase a tag online to register for your Salik. After adding credit, you can attach your tag to your windshield and easily pass through the toll gates. Each payment will be automatically taken out. Visit www.salik.gov.ae to register, purchase a tag, and top off all of your credit. You can also install the Smart Salik App, which is available in the Google Play Store and Apple Store, to do these steps. A Salik tag setup fee of Dhs 100 consists of Dhs 50 for a prepaid toll balance and another Dhs 50 for the tag itself.
