Here are the solutions to the top 5 Frequently Asked Questions.

What is co-insurance?

You must contribute a certain amount (either a fixed sum or a percentage) to the cost of any claim. This is known as co-insurance. A basic health plan's normal proportion is 20%, which means that you would be responsible for contributing AED 200 toward a claim of AED 1000, with the insurer covering the remaining AED 800.

Can I see a hospital or specialist right away with the basic plans?

Any outpatient care covered by a basic plan is limited to clinic-based care and is only covered with a general practitioner or doctor's pre-approval and referral for the required specialist. Hospital coverage is only limited to admissions to the emergency room.

Do basic plans cover pre-existing and chronic conditions?

Pre-existing ailments and chronic illnesses are often covered, but only after passing appropriate declaration requirements and waiting periods for policy claims (6 months for Dubai visa holders and 12 months for Northern Emirates visa holders). Additionally, they could have to pay a higher premium loading. Remember that certain insurers may waive the waiting time for Dubai visas if a valid Certificate of Continuity is shown.

Is maternity coverage included in a fundamental plan?

Although maternity coverage is offered, there is often a 6-month waiting time before a claim may be filed. Additionally, pregnancies that occur within 40 days of the policy's commencement date are not covered (assuming also that the applicant was nor pregnant when the policy incepted). Some insurers may offer day one coverage for pregnant applicants who are accepted by underwriters and pay their specified extra premium.

Who should we call in an emergency?

You should get in touch with your insurer's 24-hour assistance hotline in case of an emergency since they should be able to provide you with pertinent support and guidance. Please also contact your insurance provider as soon as possible, so that we can get in touch with our claims team to help you with the continuing management of your claim.
