In a recent set of events, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Committee has updated its set of guidelines for the public willing to enter the capital. The updated set of guidelines will come into effect starting Thursday, December 24. The newly updated set of rules will apply to all UAE citizens and residents and all returning Abu Dhabi residents. Below is a detailed guideline regarding the set of rules to be followed:

What are the requirements for COVID-19 testing for the public willing to enter the capital?

It is mandatory for the citizens to take a Covid test – whether PCR or DPI – and should have a negative result within 72 hours before entering Abu Dhabi. Previously, there was a difference in the test's validity requirements wherein the people would have to enter the emirates within 48 hours of receiving a damaging result on their PCR or DPI laser test. Those willing for a more extended stay of six or more consecutive days at the capital will have to take another PCR test on Day 6 from their entry date.

Counting process of their stay duration

On the day of their arrival in Abu Dhabi, it will be counted as Day 1. For example, if someone enters into Abu Dhabi on Monday, it will be considered their Day 1, and if their stay duration is more than six or more consecutive days, it will be mandatory to take a PCR test on Saturday, which will be Day 6. On a previous note, there were changes in the rules mentioned above; visiting or returning residents would have to go for a PCR test on Day 4 and Day 8 after their arrival into the capital.

What will happen if you fail to take the second PCR test?

Those people who fail to take a PCR test on Day 6 from their entry day will be charged with fines.

Is there anything that is exempted from such measures?

Those who have volunteered for the National Vaccination Program and Phase III clinical trials and have an identification mark as proof will be exempted from these measures. The identification mark can be the letter E or golden star and should be present on their Alhosn app. For these people, they will be authorized to use the emergency vehicle lanes when entering Abu Dhabi for a smoother journey.
